Training plans are great until race week.
If you’ve ever stood on a start line wondering whether you ate enough breakfast, whether you brought the right shoes, whether you’re going to hit the wall at km 15, you know why this exists.
Race week is when the Googling starts. How many carbs the night before? Gel at km 10 or km 12? What if it rains? You end up in a forum thread written by someone who ran a different race in a different country.
A Race Pack is the answer to that. Specific to your race, your fitness and your goal, grounded in facts we’ve checked with the organiser where we can. Read it once during race week and you’ll show up calm.
Six sections. Nothing generic.
Budget breakdown
What this race will cost you, all in. Entry fee, travel, accommodation, food on the weekend, kit you might need to buy. Race morning shouldn't be the first time you find out the parking is $30.
Fueling plan
Exactly what to eat and drink, and when. Carbs per hour worked out from your weight and expected finish time. Gels timed to the course. A shopping list of products you can actually buy in NZ and Australia.
Kit checklist
Everything you need to pack, and the things first-timers pack and never use. If your race has mandatory gear, it's in there word for word from the organiser.
Pacing strategy
Splits based on your easy pace and your goal, not elite times. Where to hold back, where the course bites, what to do if you fall off plan.
Race week timeline
Monday to Sunday. What to run, when to taper, when to lay out your kit. The part of training every plan skips because it ends at race day.
Mental game plan
The honest one. The first half of a half feels easy. Km 14 to 18 is where it gets hard. We give you specific things to think about when it does.
- 1Take the quizNine questions, two minutes, free.
- 2Get matchedWe show you the races that fit where you're at right now.
- 3Pick the oneMake your RUNPACT. This is the moment.
- 4Build your Race PackTen quick questions about your pace, goal and travel, then NZ$35 and it's yours in about a minute.
Why NZ$35?
A Race Pack is built for you and your race. We combine your quiz answers with the race facts we've verified (course, elevation, cutoffs, typical weather) and write a plan that's specific to all of it. NZ$35 covers that and keeps the quiz free. We considered a subscription and hated the idea of charging you monthly for something you read once.
Can I share my Race Pack with a mate?
Share away. It's built around your answers, so it won't fit them exactly, but it's a useful reference. They should take the quiz to get their own.
What if I bail on the race?
The pack is still yours. If you swap to a different race within 30 days, email us and we'll regenerate it for the new one. We don't refund a pack that's been generated, but we're reasonable about it.
Which distances do you cover?
5K to marathon, road and trail. We don't do ultras yet. The fueling section for a marathon is twice as long as for a 10K, because it needs to be.
Is this a training plan?
No. A training plan covers the months before a race. Your Race Pack covers the last week plus race day, the bit most plans skip. If you want a full plan, a coach or an app like Runna does that well. We're the prep, not the build.
What about allergies or dietary needs?
The pack builder doesn't ask about diet yet. Email hello@donebynine.com after you buy and we'll regenerate your fueling section around what you can eat.
When do I get it?
About a minute after you answer the pack-builder questions. It lives at a private link, in your account, and in your inbox.
